Flix Premiere To Invest $50 Million In Original Content

Flix Premiere, the world’s first online cinema, announced today Flix Premiere Originals, a 50 million dollar investment to support the production of high-quality movies from independent filmmakers and production houses. The Flix Premiere Originals investment will finance the production of five to ten original film projects from talented filmmakers over the course of two years. The Flix Premiere Originals productions will debut exclusively in the Flix Premiere online theater. The announcement was made during the Festival de Cannes.

“The Flix Premiere Originals investment is a milestone in our endeavor to bring great movies to audiences worldwide. In addition to sourcing movie gems at film festivals and acquiring exclusive theatrical content for customers, we are now also producing movies together with talented filmmakers directly for Flix Premiere viewers. We are thrilled to support the work of innovative filmmakers and produce original motion pictures for our customers,” said Martin Warner, CEO of Flix Premiere.

Flix Premiere Originals will invest into five to ten movie projects from around the world over the course of two years. Movie projects will be selected from film markets at global festivals, such as the Festival de Cannes, Sundance Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, and direct submissions to the Flix Premiere team. Flix Premiere will employ the same rigorous screening and curation process used to select theatrical releases to identify promising early-stage movie projects for the Flix Premiere Originals production. The selected productions will be released with a Red Carpet Premiere hosted exclusively for Flix Premiere audiences and featured in the Flix Premiere Online Cinema.

Since its launch in the US and UK, Flix Premiere has captured movie audiences by combining a unique curated theatrical release model with on-demand availability. Movies that have never been screened outside of film festival settings become available to a wider audience for the first time. Following the Red Carpet premiere, movies become available on demand exclusively for Flix Premiere viewers.

Flix Premiere shows a wealth of independent films from global film festivals. The online cinema is available for viewers across a wide range of desktop, mobile and over-the-top (OTT) channels, including iOS and Android apps, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire Stick. The company recently launched a welcome program, offering Flix Premiere visitors to watch their first movie for free upon signing up on the site.
