One of the more interesting devices for cord cutters unveiled at CES 2016 is Select TV by FreeCast. Select TV is a device that some are saying could be the biggest challenge to the big streaming players like Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, and Fire TV.
The device by the makers of Rabbit TV is said to combine the free curated aspects of Rabbit, the premium channel selection of Roku, plus a built in DVR, and OTA (over the air) tuner. Sounds like the be all, end all cord cutting device if they can deliver. After a little digging it appears that this company has been foreshadowing this device since early last year, so who knows how close it is to fruition.
Here is the complete info release on the device from Select TV:
FreeCast, the company behind 4M paying web TV subscribers in the last 24 months, will be featured at the packed ShowStoppers press event on Wednesday night at the Wynn Hotel during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where the company will unveil its long-awaited set top box, due to hit big box retailers early this year.
Select TV promises to revolutionize the delivery of the pay-TV industry online, by offering over 350,000 TV episodes, 200,000 movies, 1000 web channels, local OTA channels from the major networks, a full calendar of live events and concerts, over 50,000 streaming radio stations, music videos, games and more, from free, pay-per-view, and subscription sources, all for just $2.99 per month.
